10 Reality TV Shows That Question Your Supernatural Beliefs

Clearly somebody at The SyFy Channel has figured out the perfect way to launder money through their productions, because that’s the only reason I can think of for them to create YET ANOTHER program in this genre. This time, it’s “Haunted Collector”. Running from 2011 to 2013, the show follows demonologist John Zaffis as he leads a group of investigators into the homes of people experiencing paranormal activity with hopes of finding the “cursed object” that’s causing all their troubles.

Right off the bat, there’s a problem with this. Not the idea that objects have the ability to pick up negative energy or anything like that, no. The issue lies Zaffis himself. First, he’s related to Ed and Lorraine Warren (the paranormal hunting couple that “The Conjuring” films are based upon), two people whose expertise in the matter of spirits is dubious at best. And second, he also has dealings with Jason Hawes (one of the founders of TAPS, mentioned above in the “Ghost Hunters” entry), who credits Zaffis as his inspiration in becoming a ghost hunter. His connections to these three people... three people who have made quite the killing off of their “expertise”, may I add... is enough to bring Zaffis’ credibility into question.

And not just that, but what’s to stop this man from taking what he wants from these places? It’s not like there’s any proof of whatever object Zaffis says is haunted actually is, right? So he could be the ultimate cat burglar if you think about it. I mean, that’s what I’d do if I were in his position. See a priceless antique on someone’s mantle? It’s cursed! I need to take this from your home, otherwise a plague of spirits will kill your family. And these dopes will let you do it, because they believe you’re the real deal because you have a camera crew following you.

Actually, if you view “Haunted Collector” in that light, it makes the show immensely more entertaining.
