When something breaks, you call a professional to fix it. Wether that be your car, your plumbing, even your computer, its always best to get somebody with years of experience to help you out, right? Well, not if your problems involve pesky phantoms apparently, because from 2007 to 2011, the A&E Network followed families afflicted by apparitions and demons who called on the assistance of the “Paranormal State” crew to aid them with their plight.

As the opening voice over during the credits states, “We are students, we are seekers, and sometimes, we are warriors”. What it doesn’t say is that these so called “experts” are about three years removed from puberty and are more likely to obsess over their upcoming calculus test or Facebook status than be able to properly rid your home of spirits. Plus, it doesn’t help when the person who heads up this group, a young man named Ryan Buell, claims to have a demonic entity stalking him that sometimes likes to appear at the very places he’s investigating.

I thought it went without saying, but folks? If evil entities have decided to use your home as a vacation spot? Maybe your best bet wouldn’t be calling in some guy who’s going to bring in more, y’know?

But that’s the least of this shows worries, as it has also been plagued by controversies. Claims of staged evidence, questionable editing, and fraudulent psychic readings, are just some of the accusations laid down by Kelli Ryan, a client who appeared an episode of the show entitled “The Messenger”. Again, a Google search will net you more juicy details about the behind the scenes shenanigans of this show, and proves just how far many of these shysters will stoop in order for ratings.

But really, did you expect a show that follows a bunch of college aged Ghostbusters to be anything but a lot of hot air?
