This continuing storyline really helps hold the entire show together. Rather than having a monster of the week style format, Constantine's rising darkness story arc is cleverly used to link all these supernatural occurrences. This gives a reason behind why so many towns across America are starting to experience weird happenings, rather than using the just because excuse. The rising darkness story could carry on for Constantine's entire run. Viewers want to know more about it: who really is behind it all, the demon who took Astra, or the first of the fallen himself? What is John's connection with it? These are questions that only more seasons can answer.
