10 Reasons Why Constantine Must Not Get Cancelled

4. Matt Ryan As Constantine

It€™s not easy playing a character who needs to come as across as being both a bit of a jerk and likeable, but Matt Ryan pulls it off. Choosing who played Constantine was always going to be an important decision, having Keanu Reeves portray him in the movie version instantly put off a lot of Hellblazer fans. Not only does Ryan nail the character, but his resemblance to the Hellblazer Constantine is pretty much spot on. He may be slightly younger and prettier, but this is television after all. His scowl, wry smile and slightly lived-in face is exactly how most people imagined a real-life version of the Liverpudlian exorcist. As the show continues, you can feel Ryan becoming more comfortable in the role. Viewers want more seasons added to see him show-off his emotional range, something that is required when playing a character as damaged and complex as Constantine.
