10 Reasons DC Rules Superhero TV

7. Fresh Ideas

If a comic book character gets stuck in one configuration for too long, it can start to stagnate the brand into something that seems stuck on a loop. Thankfully, DC has been taking some very cool and bold steps with their characters, thanks to shows like Gotham and The Flash. While they are supremely indebted to the comics that inspired them and it shows, they never become slaves to the canon, which is perfect. A show like Gotham is excellent because it takes the Batman mythology and it doesn't break it, but it bends it ever so gently, squeezing new morsels of creativity out of a character that didn't seem like he had any. Gotham can take a character that had reached his maximum potential for reboots and completely change the game, which is also what Arrow and The Flash have done to great effect. Fresh ideas in television are hard to come by these days, but DC's been assembling a great team of writers and producers who have distinct visions for these characters. These new voices are speaking with a clear head, not constrained to one idea of a character, but rather embracing the core of who they were and reinventing them in fantastic new ways.
