10 Reasons Doctor Who Is Better When You're An Adult

5. Streaming Platforms And The Rise Of Binge-Watching

How many sleepless nights did we face as children waiting for the epic conclusion where the Doctor would be victorious over the villain? All that waiting reduced to mere seconds with the click of a button.

Binge-watching, viewing two to six episodes in one sitting, has become the most common way of watching TV shows amongst general audiences, with 18 to 39-year-olds being the most likely to consume content in this way.

For occasional binge-watchers, this behaviour relieves stress and make us feel more immersed in a show. When watching multiple episodes, the storyline is easier to follow than if we watch just one, making the series more enjoyable overall.

With a show like Doctor Who, full of teasers and overarching plotlines, binge-watching allows us to connect to the Whoniverse even more so than when we were children. Not to mention, with more responsibilities to worry about now we’re older, the need for escapism has increased too.

Jess has just graduated from Winchester with a BA in writing. Her non-academic achievements include watching the fantasy drama Merlin five times and reading an ungodly amount of YA fiction. She also enjoys playing sandbox games, singing along poorly to Twenty One Pilots' lyrics and writing too much for her biography.
