9. The Poor Sex And The City Films

You may be asking how these are related, but there are concerning similarities than you might want to think about. Both shows were successful TV shows, both explored the time in your life where you are growing up and making important decisions, and both were set in New York. The Sex and the City film attempted to diversify the concept and move the characters around the world, looking at how characters have developed off screen. This was certainly an interesting concept, but it fundamentally failed to transfer onto the cinema screen. We would certainly not want this to happen to Friends; the thirty minute concept of Sex and the City made it bearable, and while Friends could manage the longer screen time, the risk of moving the concept out of New York or explaining character changes would be immensely negative. They are different shows, and Sex and the City was certainly a lot more adult and very feminine orientated, but the fundamental issue with the film is one that we hope Friends never has to deal with.
