9. We're All Simultaneously Heroes And Losers
Fry's place in the world can be confusing: he is both the saviour of the universe (the episode where defeated the brains) and its most unremarkable moron. One minute he is integral to our survival, the next he pours cereal and milk over his head and eats from it. But aren't well all this way? At least, in our own stories we are. Despite us all (on the whole) being doomed to never-ending mediocrity, we all still remain the heroes of our own lives, the main characters of the movies about ourselves that we are constantly making and watching as time progresses forward. Much like Fry, we endlessly experience one minute of absolute humiliation and failure, followed by another minute of total glory and exultation - like messing up at work in the morning, then wining an important sports game or defeating the Pokémon League with only two Pokémon at night. As contradictory as Fry's character is, he is the best picture of ourselves that we could want.
