10 Reasons Maniac Is The Best Netflix Original Series Since Stranger Things

7. Complex Storylines That Avoid Getting Convoluted

Multiple realities can easily fall into convoluted mess territory, but Maniac largely avoids reaching that point. The show allows the characters and themes to be complex, while keeping the reality-jumping sections simple enough to avoid losing viewers along the way.

This will likely be a contested point as reviews from other outlets indicate that these sections were over-complicated and didn't make much sense. However, if you pay attention to the locations and what everyone is wearing (props to the design team once again), you'll know that everything happening is within the simulation. The show makes a clear separation between the dreams and the real-world, never making viewers strain to keep up.

In addition, the simulations/dreams are never superfluous as the underlying messages built within them are examined and discussed between characters after they end. Don't be afraid about getting lost, Maniac will keep you well-informed.
