10 Reasons Netflix's Marvel Is Definitely Worth Your Time

Don't let the "superhero" label deceive you, these shows deal with dark, gritty, and serious issues.

Although Iron Man 3 dips its toes into conversations about PTSD and mental illness, things had to be kept relatively family friendly. Netflix's Marvel shows, however, were clearly aimed at an adult audience from the beginning. Because of this, they didn't have to worry about sugarcoating anything.

Jessica Jones' PTSD is a central theme to the first season, and it never truly goes away. We see the debilitating effects of Jones' illness, as well as the effects of addiction and recovery in her companions. It is worth noting that these themes are dealt with delicately, and aren't thrown in for gratuitous purposes.

And let's not forget the social commentary. Poverty and social injustice are highlighted across the seasons, in way more depth than in the films. Again, Black Panther may touch on this - but not with the same profundity.
