10 Reasons The DC Animated Universe MUST Return

7. It Never Totally Went Away

Justice League Reunion
Warner Bros.

Technically, the DCAU ended with the finale of Justice League Unlimited in 2006.

That's not the whole story, however.

Elements of that universe have continued to show up since then. There were two direct to video movies, Batman and Harley Quinn (2017) and Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019), that DC considers continuations of Batman TAS and Justice League Unlimited, respectively.

Several voice actors continued their roles in other animated projects, playing the same characters but not in the same continuity. Most of the voice cast appeared in the DC animated films Public Enemies, Apocalypse, and Doom. Certain members of the original casts appeared in smaller roles in DC shows like Justice League Action, The Batman, Teen Titans Go!, and Supergirl.

Video games are another area where the original voice cast stayed busy, the most notable example being Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin in the Batman : Arkham series. Other franchises where actors played the same characters include the DC Lego games, Injustice, and DC Universe Online.

The DCAU left a lasting legacy of both style and substance that continues to echo today.
