10 Reasons To Be Excited About Marvel's Jessica Jones

5. The Entire Project Is Female-Driven

Rather than just pay lip-service to their female fans, Marvel have used the Jessica Jones project as a way of injecting gender diversity into the MCU behind the scenes, too. They have a female showrunner - Melissa Rosenberg - and three out of four executive producers are women. They've also employed a number of female writers and directors. In terms of characters, the supporting cast of Jessica Jones, apart from Cage and Kilgrave, is dominated by women. Her best friend Trish Walker appears as does a gender-flipped Jeri Hogarth (a female version of the comics' Jeryn Hogarth). There are even some hints that Jones might not be strictly heterosexual, which would be another step forward for the MCU.
