4. The Empire
While Darth Vader is certainly a huge part of Aphra's life for a time, the Empire plays a big role overall. That isn't surprising since Aphra is operating during a time when the Empire's power is still firm but is also starting to fall apart. Many of her adventures take place at the point when the Emperor's grip is starting to loosen, even if he hasn't realized it, yet.
Aphra is an equal opportunity thief who will steal from anyone and everyone but many of her heists involve the Empire in some capacity. Even if they aren't the direct target, their agents and bases often have pieces of the puzzle that Aphra needs to get the job done.
What's interesting about her interactions with the Empire is how much they differ from most. Aphra tends to expose the cracks in the edifice that dominates the galaxy. She exposes their weaknesses, and how they unwittingly helped the Rebels win thanks to their own arrogant bureaucratic nonsense.
