10 Reasons Why Family Guy Is Better Than The Simpsons

2. "Shut Up Meg"

Apu€™s €œthank you, come again,€ Mister Burns€™ €œexcellent€ and Homer€™s €œD€™oh€ are not as funny as they used to be. However, when Peter tells his daughter to €œshut up meg€ nearly everyone laughs. Seth MacFarlane has stated that this joke grew out of the inability of the writers to write for a young woman, but the running joke has become a constant part of the show; in the Star Wars parody Meg is always shown as a grotesque figure. Will this one liner cease to be funny at some point? Certainly. However, unlike The Simpsons this has not yet occurred. Simple one lined phrases made The Simpsons so funny; you could identify a character through €œheelloooo eveeeryyboddy, I€™m Doctor Nick,€ or Doctor Hibbert€™s signature laugh. Although we established earlier that the supporting cast of Family Guy have personalities and running jokes, they do not have the one line identifying remarks of The Simpsons. It is virtually impossible to read a Troy McClure image and not hear his voice, but the success of Family Guy is that we do not need to instantly recognise characters now. The Simpsons did one liners exceptionally well, but this time has now passed, and Family Guy has done equally well to keep one running gag reliant on the one liner.
