10 Reasons You Should Be Watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine
8. It's Got An Accurately Diverse Cast
You'd think it'd be a no-brainer that a show set in New York, one of the most multicultural cities in America, would feature a reasonably racially diverse cast. Similarly, you'd think a show set on the planet earth, with a roughly 50/50 gender split among the human population, would feature a decent number of women. However, television generally remains a mostly white, male domain. Brooklyn Nine-Nine has casually subverted this outdated trend by casting people of colour and women in multiple leading roles. Further, the show doesn't go around patting itself on the back for daring to have a group of people roughly reflective of the general population (albeit slightly more attractive). They just did it and it adds to the sense of the show's world as a lived in and recognisable place.
