6. "Pride Parade" - What We Do In The Shadows

Black Mirror Loch Henry
FX

Following the exploits of four vampires and their familiar living in Staten Island, What We Do In The Shadows has been a veritable hit for FX.

Jemaine Clement's brainchild has carved out a beloved niche amongst horror fans off the back of outrageous humour and a hilariously satirical take on vampiric folklore. As such, the fact that Season 5's "Pride Parade" is contentiously the show's most outstanding outing to date speaks volumes as to what viewers can expect from this outing.

The episode is the FX mockumentary at its very best, depicting the vampires' attempts to assist their neighbour and prospective comptroller Sean with organising a pride parade - with predictably side-splitting results. The episode also provides an inspired new take on several lesser-known facets of undead mythology, ending with a literal bang as Nandor's impromptu trip to space turns him into a fireball that crashes into the parade.

The episode even allows the showrunners to implement a gag that they have been attempting to include ever since the show debuted - the notion that if one spills a bag of rice in front of a vampire, they must count every individual grain before they can do anything else. The ridiculousness of this inclusion perfectly exemplifies the must-see nature of what is one of recent horror-comedy's finest television-based offerings.
