4. Quicksilver's Cameo - WandaVision
WandaVision certainly took the MCU to some ambitious new places, and delivered an absolute jaw-dropper of a reveal at the end of its fifth episode, when Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) was greeted at home by her apparently dead brother, Pietro Maximoff.
At first glance we only saw Pietro from the back of his silver-haired head, with viewers assuming Aaron Taylor-Johnson was back to play the part, but after a beat we cut to the front, where we see the character is played by Evan Peters, who of course portrayed Quicksilver in Fox's X-Men universe.
It was an ingenious double-twist cliffhanger that left audiences on tenterhooks waiting for the next episode, with many expecting a full-on cross-over between the two cinematic universes.
As it turned out, however, Peters was really playing a Westview resident by the name of Ralph Bohner, who had been forced to pose as Quicksilver at the behest of the evil Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn).
While some were left disappointed that this wasn't a sneaky way of inserting the best live-action Quicksilver into the MCU, it was nevertheless a true WTF appearance that nobody saw coming.
