9. Rick Tried To Save Morty From Drunk Rick
Rick has a lot of opinions and ideas, usually unpopular ones, regarding the things others hold in high regard. From the education system to marriage, and Morty's heroes, the Vindicators. When the two of them were literally called to adventure by the team, Rick spent the entire time berating and belittling them.
Seemingly jealous of the affection Morty held for Vance Maximus and the team, Rick got incredibly drunk and designed a number of tasks designed to test and embarrass the Vindicators. Throughout the whole ordeal, Rick is in the dark about what Drunk Rick has in store for them, as he has literally no recollection of the night before.
A theory put forward on Reddit speculates that actually, Rick knew exactly what was coming, and that he tried to save Morty from seeing it. When he asked his grandson to grab him a coffee it was to make sure he wasn't there for the trials that would eventually kill the Vindicators.
The only reason the team advanced to each new level was because Morty was with them after refusing to get his grandpa coffee. Rick's original plan however, was to murder the heroes, and tell Morty they were killed fighting Worldender, so he could still look up to them as idols without ever having to deal with them again.
