https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT-C-Q2AQoM Comic Relief is a non-profit charity organization that was established to bring aid to the homeless population of the United States. The organization was started by Bob Zmuda -- best known as Andy Kaufman€™s co-writer and personal friend, and the sometimes portrayer of Tony Clifton. Beginning in the corporation€™s inaugural year of 1986, a television fundraiser was held on HBO. These telethons ran annually until 1998, with some further sporadic appearances since then. From the start, Zmuda lined up a super-team of hosts for the television event in Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robin Williams -- who hosted every edition of the show from €˜86 to €˜98. The telethons often began with the three hosts introducing the program, stating the cause, and how viewers could donate to the charity. Beyond that, the show featured a wealth of stand-up and stage acts that would delight the fans in attendance and at home. Williams, Goldberg, and Crystal would often perform short sets as well, and every time any combination of the three appeared on stage, viewers knew they were in for a treat. Robin and Billy were especially uproarious together, often straying from the script and genuinely cracking each other up. Comic Relief was a good time for fans and performers alike, and it was all for a good cause.
