10 Roles That Showed Doctor Who Actors In A Completely Different Light
6. Colin Baker The Brothers
Outside of Doctor Who, Colin Baker will perhaps be best known for Blake's 7, a show in which he played a flamboyant and egotistical villain. It's this smarmy, outlandish side of his acting that became the crux of the Sixth Doctor; Baker claims he's taken a bullet for the other Doctors by being the arrogant, unlikeable incarnation. Before either sci-fi giants though, Colin Baker was Paul Merroney in The Brothers, a snide, young professional and the villain of the show. Rather than playing the role with his trademark bombastic bravado, Baker was often subtle, relying on his facial expressions more than his booming voice, and looking bored with his counterparts, rather than livid with them; it was a performance that was to open doors for him, and it was only later that he became such a dazzling personality on television. Kate O'Mara, who would go on to play the Rani, also appeared in The Brothers; it's a show that Doctor Who has more to thank than most.
