7. Bea's Confusion

As was probably just proven by the amphetamines part of the last entry, Bea Horseman wasn't always the most sympathetic character. However, despite being a terrible mother to BoJack and all around terrible person, Time's Arrow made it impossible not to feel for her.

The episode explored the destructive effects of Alzheimer's, taking us inside Bea's head. It was clear from the start of the season that she had mentally deteriorated, but it wasn't until Time's Arrow that we actually saw Bea's perspective. It helped unravel the mystery of Hollyhock's mother, but much more importantly than that, it offered Bea a depth and narrative we'd never seen before.

Bea's childhood, early love affair with Butterscotch and her angry, empty marriage were all smashed into one unending trauma, and made it impossible not to feel something for her, even if you still might not like her all that much.

The final twist though comes at the end, when her mind grants her a moment of clarity. BoJack has been waiting for this to tell her off, but when we finally gets the chance, he decides instead to usher her back to her blissful ignorance and walk out of her life.
