10 Saved By The Bell Plots That Are Certifiably Insane

4. The School District Has No Problem With Children Replacing Teachers

(From "Student Teacher Week") A lot of Saved By The Bell comes off like being wish fulfillment for the tween audience. Lots of kids outsmarting adults, being in positions of power, etc. The ultimate example of this is "Student Teacher Week." In a plot that would obviously be greenlit by any sane school board in the world, select kids who write the best essays get a week where they take over the faculty job of their choice. Since the only students that matter are the regular cast, Kelly taught history, Lisa and Screech taught gym class, and Zack took over for Mr. Belding as principal because the gist of his essay was how easy it was.
Kelly takes her job really seriously, as do Lisa and Screech, just slightly less. Zack is using the opportunity to fool around with airheaded girls (who call him "Principal Zack") in Belding's office and not do any work for a week. He makes this completely obvious, too, with all sorts of inappropriate announcements over the loudspeaker. The school district has no problem with this for some reason, the same way that they had no problem with Belding acting as a student for a week, during which he surely acted creepy with the school's female population. There ends up being some kind of moral to the story when Zack and Kelly make the football team pass her test before they can play, a lesson that millions of children surely remembered when they had their own opportunity to switch places with their teachers in high school.
