10 Scariest Characters In Horror TV Shows
5. Joe - The Enfield Haunting
What's scarier than fiction? Reality.
But of course, that depends on your opinion of ghosts.
One of the most damning cases in the history of trying to prove the existence of ghosts is the famous Enfield Poltergeist. If you haven't heard about the case, you are in for a treat.
The Enfield Poltergeist is in reference to a so-called haunting that took place in the '70s in, you guessed it, Enfield, London.
A family at 284 Green Street reported the paranormal activity to the police, where an officer also had a first-hand experience with the apparent spirit. From there, many scientists and paranormal investigators were called to the house to either prove or disprove the encounters, and a book was eventually written on the case due to its fame.
The Enfield Haunting was a mini-series based on the whole experience, following the family of 284 and paranormal investigator Maurice Grosse.
In the show, the titular haunting is executed by the deceased Joe Watson, a creep of a man that preys on the children that live in 284, especially young Janet. Joe looks like your ordinary cockney bloke, but it's through his unique haunting that you realise his true nature. He brutally and incessantly injures the family, psychologically torments them and goes as far as to possess poor Janet.
If the story is true, then Joe may be the scariest villain in tv history (and real history).
