10 Scariest Characters In Horror TV Shows
4. The Mind Flayer - Stranger Things
Horror isn't the first genre that comes to mind when fans think of the hit show Stranger Things. Yes, the first and second season have their fair share of chilling and suspenseful moments, the opening scene of Will getting kidnapped coming to mind. But it's the scenes involving The Mind Flayer in season 3 that truly cements the show as a horror series.
We have hints of gore throughout the show, but nothing that makes your stomach churn in uncomfortable sickness. It seems the showrunners picked up on this because they went full-on body horror for season 3. The Mind Flayer had been the primary antagonist of the show for all three seasons. An unseen entity in season 1, and a figment of Will's mind during season 2 when he flashes back to The Upsidedown before eventually getting possessed by it. But The Mind Flayer finally gets centre stage in season 3 when the Russians reopen the portal to The Upsidedown.
It begins by flaying the minds of rats, possessing them to ingest chemicals and melting them into puddles of gory goo. If that isn't gross enough, it starts to do the same to humans, and once they've become a melted mass of human mess, they meld together, giving The Mind Flayer a body in our realm.
The creature is not only terrifying to look at but disgusting and the final showdown is the most intense of the series.
