2. The Killer - MTV Scream
Scream may be one of the most famous slasher movie franchises, but its killers always aired more on the comedic side. This is not a diss to the movies, clearly, the comedy was intentional, with a cartoonish mask and clumsy demeanour, you were supposed to laugh. But when MTV got the rights to the franchise they decided to give the Ghostface killer a creepy makeover.
It was this change to the character and mask that were the main contributors to fans snubbing the show. But, for viewers that stuck it out this new killer, along with the show in general, were actually not only watchable but enjoyable too.
The Killer, now only known by that name, takes on a more unnerving, intimidating personality. Gone are the hilarious, bumbling chase sequences and simple stabbing kills. In their place are sequences that feel more like a predator stalking its prey and phone calls that not only reference the horror genre but play with the victim's minds too.
This killer is more sadistic, serious and unsettling. And all that is proven in the inventive and twisted death and torture scenes. You have people being cut in half by a trencher, girls getting locked in a freezer and stabbed from every angle, and couples getting trapped in Mr and Mrs matching coffins to be buried alive and drowned, respectively.
