10 Scariest Supernatural Episodes Ever Made
4. No Exit (Season 2, Episode 6)
What's worse than being captured by a serial killer? Being captured by the ghost of America's first serial killer, of course!
Sam, Dean, and fan favorite Jo are on the hunt for a spirit haunting an apartment complex. As a surprise to the three hunters, it turns out that said spirit is the one of the notorious serial killers, H.H. Holmes.
A sizable chunk of 'No Exit' takes place in dark, dirty, confined places. Claustrophobic doesn't even come close to covering it. Yet, neither those tight spaces nor the maniac lurking within them are the creepiest parts of this episode. That award goes to all the ectoplasm.
When one hears the word "ectoplasm" they probably think of the comically gross green stuff from Ghostbusters. Supernatural takes a much more different approach. Rather than being fun and icky, it's more like visually repulsive on every level. Plus, the sound it makes could almost be described as crunchy. That's right, crunchy.
This is also one of the few episodes where the thing being hunted doesn't bite the dust. Instead, Holmes meets his fate locked away in a concrete prison. Talk about time-out.
