10 Scenes To Remind Us Why We Love The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air

2. Will Comes Home - How I Spent My Summer Vacation

http://youtu.be/KDYQA8A_Aho Uncle Phil's tireless exasperation towards his nephew is the main plot for many episodes, from the fat jokes to the screw up's. Uncle Phil and Will's dynamic relationship is the source of much of the comedy gold that made The Fresh Prince so popular from the moment the show started, right until it ended 6 years later. It also grounds the show in a realistic family setting. The character of Will was abandoned by his father at an early age and spent years drifting towards unsuitable male role models. In the figure that he had the most friction with, he finally found him. This clip perfectly captures that love-hate relationship to a tee as, after a blissful summer for everyone, Will returns back to the Bank's home with young Ashley following adoringly in his footsteps €“ much to Uncle Phil's dismay. The portrayal of family dynamics throughout this episode is fantastically sharp and accurate, making it very easy for the viewer to connect with. We've all known a family where the impressionable youngster idolises the tearaway, though usually we're glad if we don't have to exercise any degree of parental responsibility. It's easy to identify with Phil's mounting frustration for the older viewer, and it's a similar situation for the younger viewer who might revel in the idolisation Will feels. The big, beating heart of the show is evident through the relationship between the two characters €“ no matter how much Phil resents Will's presence, there is no doubt about the love between the two. Like all the best comedies, TFPOBA has a realistic family unit that we recognise from our own lives €“ we're just glad ours isn't as dysfunctional.
