Doctor Who is one of the longest running, most prolific science fiction series of all time, first airing on the BBC in 1963. New episodes are still being produced today. It has also spawned several spin off series over the years, including Torchwood.

To be specific, Torchwood was a spin off of the revived Doctor Who franchise starring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness. Jack is a mysterious character from the revived series who is affiliated with Torchwood, a rogue covert organization that investigates extraterrestrial incidents on Earth.

They're kind of like The X-Files department of the FBI except they steal alien tech for their own use.

Debuting in 2006, Torchwood produced 41 episodes over four series. Captain Jack just reappeared in the most recent series of Doctor who, giving producers an excellent jumping off point for new Torchwood episodes. He is a fan favorite character so more Torchwood featuring Harkness would definitely be welcomes.
