10 Sci-Fi TV Shows That Wasted Great Characters
1. Jerome (Gotham)
Jerome is infamous, to say the least. He was a bright spot in Gotham's acting department thanks to the compelling performance from Cameron Monaghan, but the writing side of that coin wasn't as shiny. There was also the elephant in the room that asked, "so, is he the Joker, or not?".
The character came along as a mother-killing carny who found himself tied up in Arkham Asylum before eventually breaking out and living life as a quasi-Clown Prince of Crime. Then, he was killed off, and it seemed the confusion was settled. But then, he was resurrected, and the mess just kept going. Then, in another baffling choice, he got killed off again and was succeeded by his brother Jerimiah. Overall, like many things in Gotham, it was rather confusing.
While he was certainly electric on screen, the writers never seemed to want to commit to him. Of course, the series was disavowed from calling him The Joker, as they weren't permitted to by DC. But, still, this character would have ended up being run into the ground no matter what his name was.
