10 Sci-Fi TV Shows That Wasted Great Characters
5. Andrew Gilbert Mills - Agil (Sword Art Online)
Now seems like the perfect time to talk about Sword Art Online, as this is the very year in which the show takes place. 2022 may not have NerveGear in real life yet, but what it does have is plenty of missed opportunities, so it's got that in common with SAO at least.
Sword Art Online is a show filled with colourful characters who all seem to revolve around the main protagonist Kirito. However, while these supporting figures get some fun designs and decent screen time, the same cannot be said for this hulking man.
Andrew Gilbert Mills (otherwise known as Agil in the SAO game world) provides something that no other character in the show does, and that's maturity. In the sea of young faces and small bodies, he's the beefy/adult figure who has so much potential when it comes to being a mentor figure and keeping the show from feeling all the same.
Sadly, as the series progressed, he got pushed more and more to the background, essentially devolving into a basic bartender. You could replace his role with a nameless character, and it wouldn't make a difference.
