10 Scrapped Ideas For Star Trek: Enterprise Season 5

In Star Trek: The Animated Series, writer Larry Niven loaned his creation, the Kzinti, to the franchise. They are effectively giant cats, any of whom could have been played by an actor in the shape of a Star Trek Into Darkness Klingon. They are honour-bound, and have made another appearance in Star Trek since, though in name only. In Star Trek: Picard, Riker says that they have had a little trouble with the Kzinti on Nepenthe.

For the fifth season of Enterprise, writer Jimmy Diggs designed a Kzinti ship that would have been a part of the story 'Kilkenny Cats', written by Manny Coto. This would have brought them into modern Star Trek, though of course, it didn't pan out.

There is a little mercy in this. In 2005, CGI had not truly advanced to a level of quality that would have allowed them to appear. While the Xindi Insectoid race was a great design, as were the Xindi Aquatics, there is the inevitable coldness that accompanies early CGI characters on a television budget, lest we even speak of the Gorn from In A Mirror, Darkly.
