10 Seinfeld Reappearances On Curb Your Enthusiasm

5. Sal Bass Is Salman Rushdie (Kind Of)

In the fourth season Seinfeld episode “The Implant”, Kramer meets a mysterious man at the health club who introduces himself as “Sal Bass”. Kramer is convinced the man is actually real-life author Salman Rushdie (played by Tony Amendola), and goes on an odd mission to confirm his suspicion.

Then, on the first episode of the ninth season of Curb, the real Rushdie appears as himself when Larry writes the play Fatwa! based on the author's life.

Again, there is multiple layers of truth and fiction pasted over one another as the fictional fatwa called against Larry by the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, mirrors the real-life backlash Rushdie faced for his novel The Satanic Verses when Ayatollah Khomeini ordered a fatwa against him.
