10 Serious Moments From Sitcoms

9. Only Fools And Horses - The Boys Get Rich

time on our hands Del Boy and Rodders conquered the British TV screens through the €˜80s with their swindling ways to try and make it rich. The attitude of €˜this time next year we€™ll be millionaires€™ was the constant undercurrent for the show even through all of its romantic and family based storylines, which yielded more than it€™s share of comedy gems. Del Boy falling through the bar is still astonishingly funny. Alas, we€™re not just here to laugh and it was the 1996 Christmas episode Time On Our Hands that finally gave the Trotter boys the millions they wanted. It€™s oddly quite satisfying to see them find their fortune. Del Boy€™s money making efforts weren€™t always right and certainly not always successful so when he luckily happens upon an 18th century Harrison marine watch while clearing out a garage, everything seems to have come up peachy. They sell the watch, getting over three million pounds each and we get a nice little montage of them living the life of luxury. But not all is well. Del Boy, Rodney and Uncle Albert meet back at the flat in Peckham one last time before they sell it on and Del Boy wants to keep on trading. He can€™t enjoy his retirement and wants the excitement of his old life. It€™s the classic case of the thrill being in the chase rather than the capture and there€™s a real sadness to the line €œTrotters Independent Traders has ceased trading€.
