10 Seriously Overlooked British TV Shows

1. Between The Lines

Fans of Line of Duty might detect something suspiciously similar if they give Between the Line a go: an up-and-coming officer is reluctantly strong-armed by a no-nonsense Irish boss to join a team investigating corruption and other police complaints, with a strong female who occasionally goes undercover… sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Airing between 1992 and 1994, Between the Lines was something of a surprise hit for the Beeb, garnering a BAFTA to boot. Focusing on corruption within the police force by way of the Complaints Investigation Bureau (CIB), the core team of Detective Superintendent Tony Clark (Neil Pearson), Harry Naylor (Tom Georgeson), and Maureen Connell (Siobhan Redmond) investigate racial injustice, misogynist officers, and other forms of institution corruption along the way.

Suffice to say, Between the Lines has (sadly) lost none of its relevance and remains a powerful, complex drama. Especially considering the success of the decidedly more flashy Line of Duty, fans who find themselves jonesing for more once this latest season ends will be more than happy to happen upon Between the Lines (and some might even end up preferring it).
