10 Shocking Doctor Who Facts You Won't Believe

1. There Have Been Way More Than 13 Doctors

Oh, if only it was really that simple! The show's "official" canon would have you believe that there have only (yeah... "only"!) been 13 incarnations of the Doctor to date but the franchise's ever expanding mythology now stretches even further than the confines of the coveted TV series itself. Let's not forget Peter Cushing who portrayed Dr. Who - a gentle, grandfatherly scientific advisor (sound familiar?) - in Dr. Who and the Daleks and its subsequent sequel Daleks - Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D and then there was that Comic Relief sketch in 1999 which, while totally unofficial, introduced fans to the Doctor's ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth incarnations, as played by Rowan Atkinson, Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley. Things are just as confusing in the realms of the show's canon, too. It all made complete sense (relatively speaking) until the Tenth Doctor went and 'cheated' death by pouring his regeneration energies into his "handy spare hand" and then the stratosphere of the fandom was ripped apart - and then some - when Sir John Hurt was revealed as a secret incarnation that nobody had ever known about. So there actually has been thirteen Doctors, after all, even though Peter Capaldi is still the twelfth because the John Hurt version refuses to call himself 'the Doctor'. Or something like that, anyway. Besides, as of The Time of the Doctor, the Doctor's been given a whole new set of regenerations which is... you know, handy in ensuring the longevity of BBC's flagship drama. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, mind, but at least fans can rest assured in the knowledge that the Doctor isn't going anywhere any time soon, despite the fact nobody seems to know what incarnation he's even on anymore. Not even he's 100%... What did you think of this list? Are there any other mind blowing Doctor Who facts that should've been included? Share 'em in the comments section below!
