10. Verity Lambert Was The BBC's First Female TV Producer

The inception of Doctor Who into the British television market was revolutionary in more ways than one. The series is celebrated for the fact that it was helmed by the BBC's first ever female producer after its creator, Sydney Newman, enlisted the services of Verity Newman, whose original role had been as a production assistant. Despite having no previous producing history, Sydney saw something in Verity and he later affirmed that offering her the coveted role was one of the best things he ever did. Verity, who passed away in 2007, went onto become one of the UK's leading industry icons and is often cited as a symbol of women's advances within the media.
