10 Simpsons Characters Who Are Completely Underused
9. Gil Gunderson
Gil is probably the newest "classic" character on The Simpsons. The down-on-his-luck, bumbling jack-of-all-trades came in around the turn of the century, and has gone on to take over the role often served by Lionel Hutz, among others. He did have his moment to shine in "Kill Gill Vol 1 & 2", an episode that saw him move in with the Simpson clan, but there's still a lot more that could be done with the character. Hutz and fellow Hartman character Troy McClure turned up fairly often on the show ("A Fish Called Selma" anyone?), and with Hartman gone, it still feels like there's a void. Gil is one of the characters that could fill it. Given how he seems to fail at every venture, why not an episode that shows him attempting multiple careers but crashing and burning in each one? Or have him succeed, just once.
