10 Characters From The Simpsons Who Were Total Rip-Offs

1. Krusty The Clown Finds His Inspiration From Two TV Clowns

Host of Bart, Lisa, and Maggie's favorite TV show- The Krusty The Clown Show- is Krusty the Clown, a throwback to the days of localized kids' television shows. These types of shows were very popular during television's early years, and two TV clowns were the main basis for Krusty. First, our of Matt Groening's hometown of Portland, OR, was Rusty Nails. The TV clown hosted the second-longest running kids show in Portland from 1957-1972, and still does personal appearances to this day. The second was Bozo the Clown, most famous as stars of the syndicated Bozo's Circus out of Chicago in the late-1960s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRLPW8RlUvE While many large markets had their own versions of Bozo beginning in 1956; the Chicago star has become the most famous thanks to syndication of his show. It was Bozo's voice that inspired Krusty's distinctive laugh and sound, and his running cast of sidekicks and co-stars inspired such Krusty's sidekicks as Sideshow Mel, Corp. Punishment, and Mr. Teeny the rollerskating chimp. The audience of kids on risers seen on Bozo have also hosted Bart, Lisa, and friends on Krusty's show.
