10 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Dexter
8. Remember The Monsters?
The final ever episode of Dexter was the twelfth of season eight and to say that it has divided opinion would be kind. Dexter's foster sister Debra has been a mainstay through the entire series and her relationship with him became an increasing focus as the episodes passed. Also working in the same police department, her foul-mouthed rants and her brash personality made her a memorable character throughout.
By the end of the eighth season, she has been shot and is taken to hospital. While there, she suffers a stroke and slips into a coma. Dexter unplugs her life support and manages to get her body onto his boat where he takes her out to sea and disposes of her body in a rather touching scene.
Although it may be blindingly obvious to some, while this is similar to how Dexter disposes of other bodies, there is a very stark distinction between this and his normal methods. While his murder victims are placed into black bin liners, Debra is wrapped in a white sheet before being dropped overboard.
It may seem sensible to not treat his foster sister in the same way as just another body to be gotten rid of, but the polar opposite colours hammer home how differently he feels about this disposal.
