10 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Doctor Who

3. Familiar Faces

While Doctor Who has pulled in some big names over the years – John Hurt, Ian McKellen, Kylie Minogue – it has also given a platform to some of the stars of tomorrow.

The two biggest examples are probably Carey Mulligan in Blink, and Andrew Garfield – our future Spidey! – in Daleks of Manhattan. But arguably the more satisfying details to spot are those lesser-known actors who pop up in multiple roles, which will have you pointing at the TV screen countless times during a rewatch.

Before Vinette Robinson played Rosa Parks, she was Abi in the Series 3 episode 42. Chipo Chung, who played Chantho in Utopia, would appear in the following series as the spooky fortune teller in Turn Left. And then there's Dan Starkey, who has played about a thousand different Sontarans over the last 18 years.

Possibly the most surprising realisation is when you clock that Rani from The Sarah Jane Adventures played the Skithra Queen in the Thirteenth Doctor episode Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror. Small world, eh?

It's easy to miss these things the first time round, but when you work your way through from the beginning, you realise just how many actors the show reuses.
