Butter's mother, Linda, has a nervous breakdown after she learns her husband, Stephen, had slept with several men. Humiliated, she vows to kill herself and Butters. After driving her car into a lake with Butters in the back, Linda assumes her son has drowned, oblivious that he escaped.

When she speaks to Stephen about what happened, he convinces her to tell the press that Butters was kidnapped by some Puerto Rican guy. While the media paste Butter's face all over the news, Linda begins to unravel, ashamed that she murdered her boy. But since the episode ends with the Stotchs learning Butters is alive and well, everything is a-ok, right?

But this isn't the only time this has happened. When Cartman is convinced the girls in his class have a future-telling device, he orders Butters to pose as a girl in school to infiltrate the girl's group. To ensure no one suspects Marjorine is Butters, Cartman fakes his death by dressing a pig carcass as Butters and shoving it off a building in front of the Stotchs.

It's hard to say what's worse; thinking your son is dead or learning your son faked his death for one of Cartman's ridiculous schemes.
