10 Star Trek Foods We Wish Were Real

9. Kanar

Another DS9 staple, kanar is a syrupy Cardassian liquor. It’s available in a variety of colors, presumably reflecting its aging process, with the darkest kanar, almost black, being the best (and a personal favorite of Legate Damar).

It’s unclear what kanar is made from and how it tastes. It is possible, though, for it to spoil, meaning that kanar is likely fermented from something most humans would not find appetizing. Remember, the reptilian Cardassians drink hot fish juice for breakfast, so no doubt their other beverages are nearly as…icky.

This might account for its lack of popularity at Quark’s Bar. The tight-fisted Ferengi owner even went so far as to give Garak a bottle of kanar. At one point, he believed that no Cardassians would visit his bar again and that no one else would want anything to do with the stuff.

Still, with enough yamok sauce and a few sand peas, it might be worth a try.
