Picard season 2 revolves around Q changing history to make Picard a blood-soaked fascist general, merely to prove a point to his old nemesis. Q has changed Picard's past before, of course, in the season 5 episode Tapestry. Close to death after an away mission goes badly wrong, Q offers him the chance to make up for the mistakes of his past.

It's incredibly similar to the offer that Q makes him in the Penance, the second episode of Picard's second season. Right down to the way that Picard dismisses Q's offer in favour of embracing his reality. Returning him to a key moment from his youth, where he's near-fatally stabbed in a bar brawl, Q shows Picard how his life would have been different if he had avoided the fight.

He becomes a lowly science officer who never takes any risks, and Picard realises that it's better to have lived a good life and died too soon rather than die aa a man who wasted his life and stood for nothing. Star Trek: Picard is a series about aging and mortality, so it's the perfect place to revisit this storyline, is Q teaching Picard another valuable life lesson?

Interestingly, Picard sees a vision of his disapproving father, who is another key element of the second season of Star Trek: Picard.
