While the 2005 reboot of Doctor Who has brought with it by far the oddest and weirdest antagonists in the shows long and colourful history, theres always the Kandyman. Dear god, theres always the Kandyman. Like Bertie Bassett crossed with the Joker (so much so that Bassetts actually complained to the BBC), this psychotic robot appears as the main villains henchman in The Happiness Patrol, a serial in the 25th season of Doctor Who before its cancellation, featuring the 7th Doctor and his companion Ace. The episode featured a totalitarian dictator on a remote human colony world, eliminating any evidence of sadness from the world, like some dystopian future controlled by an evil Willy Wonka. A sadistic murderer with a weirdly squeaky voice, the Kandyman killed people with lethally delicious sweets and its exoskeleton was composed of a hard candy shell. None of this is made up, and this article is not being published on April 1st. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkjc_5yGCmM The Doctor manages to give the yummy but maniacal robot the slip early in the story by sticking its feet to the floor with spilled lemonade, and finally destroys the Kandyman with an outpouring of delicious strawberry fondant surprise, dissolving it completely in its own deadly creation. Seriously, none of this is a joke. As far as strange Doctor Who villains go, nothing matches the Kandyman.
