10 Supernatural Episodes Which Totally Broke The Mold
2. “The Heroes' Journey” (Season 15, Episode 10)
Sam develops allergies, while Dean becomes lactose
intolerant. The impala keeps breaking down, they can’t pick locks anymore and
their fighting skills leave much to be desired. Did some malicious entity curse
them with bad luck? Or are their lives simply starting to mirror our own?
Surprisingly, the answer is the latter. When God gets fed up with Sam and Dean not falling in line with his plotted-out story, he decides not to make them the main characters anymore, so the brothers find themselves facing “real-world problems.” It is here that we, as the audience, realize just how much of “normal life” had been glossed over not just in the show, but in the very lives of Sam and Dean. This is because we, as the audience, would find these things inconvenient to the story, and so does the God of Supernatural.
This does make a suggestion that we as Supernatural fans should find oddly comforting: is it possible that Sam and Dean are not nearly as special as we think? If we were relegated to their spots in the show and forced into those situations, would we fare as well as them? The revealed plot power of this episode would suggest that we actually would.
