10 Supernatural Episodes Which Totally Broke The Mold

1. “The French Mistake” (Season 6, Episode 15)

Season six was a mess. The writers had no idea where they were going, there were multiple Big Bads and the overarching narrative was in shambles. But out of this devastation came perhaps the greatest episode in all fifteen seasons. An angel casts a spell and tosses the Sam and Dean through a window where they find themselves in the respective bodies of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, stars of the hit TV series, “Supernatural.” Yes, they were literally thrown into our world.

This episode absolutely shatters the fourth wall. Sam and Dean hear pertinent exposition from Castiel, only to be revealed as Misha Collins – the actor who plays Castiel – practicing his lines. Dean discovers Ackles’ past as a soap opera star, and the brothers are horrified to learn that Padalecki has married the actress who played a prominent villain two seasons prior. And the director is constantly grumbling about “season six.”

But by far, the scene that makes it all worth it is when Sam and Dean have to act out a scene from the show. That means that, in our real world, Ackles and Padalecki had to act like Sam and Dean, pretending to be Ackles and Padalecki, acting poorly as Sam and Dean. This multi-leveled acting alone should be enough of an acting resume for Ackles and Padalecki to earn any role they should ever want.

These have been the top ten episodes of Supernatural which broke audience expectations. The creativity expressed in the show overall, as well as in these particular episodes, is worthy of immense study and enjoyment. Just like you. You have creativity in you, and you owe it to yourself to shatter the mold in which others try to place you. So like Sam and Dean, always try to be so much more than you think you are.
