10 Supernatural Episodes Which Totally Broke The Mold

6. “Fan Fiction” (Season 10, Episode 5)

By this point, it had already been established that there was an in-universe book series based on the brothers’ lives, and it had gained in notable popularity. It must also be noted that in the real world of you and me, a large portion of the Supernatural fan base is middle-school/pre-teen girls. I am not one of these. However, I have seen enough groups of girls cosplaying as Sam, Dean, Cass and Bobby at Comic-Cons to verify that this is a fact. So what happens when you combine these elements together? Ultimate fan service, if you ask me.

Sam and Dean discover that an all-girls prep school has created a musical based on their lives, and wouldn’t you know it, there’s a monster capturing the cast members, meaning that these girls need the help of the real Sam and Dean, who they believe are only fictional. The brothers are comically horrified upon witnessing certain sequences and being forced to confront truths about themselves and their relationships that they had no interest in exploring prior, elements which the young writer/director simply tells the brothers are “in the subtext.”

Dean eventually comes to terms with most of these when, in the end of the episode, he encourages the musical to go on, telling the girls to “sub the hell out of that text!”
