10 Supernatural Episodes Which Totally Broke The Mold
7. “Changing Channels” (Season 5, Episode 8)
An earlier episode revolving around other fictional
universes, season five’s “Changing Channels” has the brothers investigating an
abandoned warehouse. However, this turns out to be a trap, as they soon find
themselves bouncing between different notable television shows. Want to see Sam
do surgery in General Hospital? Check. Want to see Dean get hit in the crotch
because he can’t respond to a banzai game show host in fluent Japanese? Check.
Want to see Sam forced to claim he has genital herpes for a commercial? I don’t
think anyone wanted to see that. And let’s not forget the sitcom with
accompanying laugh track (for which the brothers impatiently wait to die down)
and the episode of Knight Rider which sees Sam transformed into the eponymous
intelligent vehicle!
This is revealed to be another appearance from the
enigmatic Trickster, who is further revealed to be none other than an archangel.
This highly creative and wacky episode introduces a new element to the show’s
mythology while also showing the brothers’ frustration with being forced
unwillingly into roles they don’t like, a theme which becomes more prominent as
the series progresses.
