10 Teen Dramas That Are Actually Good Television Shows

7. Misfits

On the one hand, Misfits is very much a genre show, with science fiction and fantasy playing a large role in most of the story lines. After all, it is a bunch of teenagers who develop superpowers during a freak storm. But it also presents a very matter of fact, warts and all depiction of modern post-adolescence, and all of the issues that go with it. These are not innocent high school sophomores agonizing over who is going to take them to the Valentine's Day dance. They're all young offenders who have made mistakes that led to them being assigned community service. And the show's strength lies in its ability to make us see their humanity, when our first impulse is to focus on their "othered" status, both as people with superpowers and as juvenile delinquents. This is definitely a different and sometimes extreme take on the late teen years, but we suspect that a lot of the emotions Misfits brings to the table ring more true than the manufactured drama of other teen shows. Sometimes dark, usually hilarious, Misfits is always fresh and interesting.
