10 Television Shows That Overstayed Their Welcome

9. Supernatural

Supernatural Supernatural is a holdover from a bygone era, next year it will head into its ninth season and as such will continue to be the last surviving show from the now defunct WB network. Along with the likes of 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill and Smallville, Supernatural was chosen to continue on the newly formed network but now all of those shows have ended yet Supernatural is still going. Though I was a fan I don't think that it should be, I believe that the show came to the natural conclusion of its story a few years ago. Eric Kripke the creator of the series had long been clear that he envisioned that the show would run for five seasons and the story played that way wonderfully. Supernatural focuses on the lives of Sam and Dean Winchester who are hunters of monsters and demons. Though admittedly the crux of the show is their relationship, that relationship was built upon a family history of hunting and it is the hunting that is now the biggest problem Season Five of Supernatural concluded with Sam and Dean defeating Lucifer, the Winchesters have literally beaten the Devil himself. For a show that is built around monster hunting there is nowhere left to go but down as the biggest demon of all has come and gone, who or what could possibly present a bigger challenge than Satan himself? Not only have they defeated their greatest possible enemy, both of the main characters have died repeatedly. There is no true sense of danger anymore and nowhere for the brothers to go thematically, it is time for the Winchesters to permanently park the Impala and finally get that normal life that they have long been denied.
